I forgot to post this a while ago... we had to check out Legends when it opened. Well here it is! We got garlic fries as a side which were really garlicky (good) and not too salty. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak because I haven't had a good one since I left the east coast. This one was yummy and had a lot of grilled flavor. Plus as a side I got beans, flavoured with rum or something like that. I forgot, it was kind of a while ago. They were good though. I sampled the fish and chips as well and they were light and not greasy, if you look at the picture you will see a flaky texture like tempura almost. Well that's it.

Kaleo's in Pahoa

I went two days ago with my mum and sister! We were going to go to Ning's but it's difficult to find things that we all like so we finally decided on Italian. I hadn't tried Kaleo's yet but a few of my friends told me it was fantastic. Since I worked previously at nearby Paolo's Bistro, who I revere as the best Italian food in Pahoa and maybe the entire island, I was extremely skeptical but I'm glad to say it was so yummy and I'd love to go there again to try their dinner menu and maybe a few of their wines, as the lunch we had was fantastic. Their menu seemed more Med than Italian with only two pasta dishes (though you can add chicken and fish for a small extra price) and there are a lot of American staples (burgers / sandwiches) with some interesting sounding fruit compotes and salsas on the side. I ordered the penne pasta with vodka sauce and chicken, my mum ordered pasta with mushroom cream sauce and chicken, and my sister ordered a grilled chicken and avo sandwich. I unfortunately forgot to bring my camera ( ToT) so I'm afraid I don't have pictures but my sister did snap a shot with her cell of me digging into our key lime torte we shared after our meal. She even got a free iced tea! Service was fast and friendly, and the food was wonderful. We all were very satisfied.

Mushroom Bisque

French Dip from Hilo Bay Cafe
French Dip from Hilo Bay Cafe
I love going out to lunch at Hilo Bay Cafe! They have class. Presentation is always lovely. Fresh ingredients. Good service, too.

I lunched there today with mum after we did a little shopping. We both ordered the soup du jour, our favorite, a Hamakua Mushroom Bisque with parmesan to start with a side of foccacia bread. Speaking of which, here is a recipe to make a delicious Wild Mushroom Bisque of your own. I did try out this recipe, and I had only white and shittake mushrooms and no leeks or shallots, but it turned out wonderfully. Off on a tangent anyways - back to lunch. We polished off our soups and when they set my French Dip down in front of me I was equally stoked but I don't know... it wasn't that great. The meat used seemed to be of low quality because it was quite stringy and there were bits that I just couldn't eat. Mum ordered the fish and chips, which were paired with a delicious salad and was far better by comparison. I still have love for Hilo Bay Cafe.
